Starsand Island Romance & Marriage Guide: Hearts to Move In
Romance in Starsand Island is a five-heart affection track with no wedding at the end: you raise hearts through talks, gifts and quests, unlock photo invites, bedroom access, story scenes and dates along the way, and at five hearts you can ask the character to move in with you. As of the 1.0 release on August 18, 2026 there are 14 romanceable islanders, the player’s gender never restricts the choice, and no source — official or community — mentions children. Everything numeric below (point thresholds, gift values, date spots) was measured by players during Early Access builds 0.2–0.7; 1.0 has not changed the published numbers as far as patch notes show, but treat them as “EA-verified” rather than final.
Who you can romance
| Women (8) | Men (6) | |
|---|---|---|
| Romanceable in 1.0 | Solara, Zerine, Pastelle, Alex, Lunelle, Neona, Serena, Stella | Graminova, Delphin, Zephyria, Aurelis, Loren, Sylvain |
| Friendship only | Every other islander, including the four My Time crossover guests (Gust, Ginger, Nia, Fang) and Youfang |
Early Access guides listed 15 “Bond” characters because Youfang carried the Bond tag, could reach five hearts and had a voiced five-heart scene — but he never offered Move In. Ahead of launch the developers stated on Discord (August 5, 2026) that romance with Youfang is not available because of his established backstory, and the official August 16 Steam post counts “14 romanceable NPCs”. Profiles, shops and voice actors for all 28 islanders are on the characters page.
Any gender, any partner. Media previews, player reports and the patch notes themselves confirm that the 14 are open to both avatar genders: a March 2026 patch fixed “male characters interacting with Loren at 5 hearts” triggering the wrong voice, and another fixed a female protagonist receiving men’s shoes from Lunelle at five hearts — bugs that only exist because those pairings are possible. Some five-heart scenes vary by your gender (Delphin takes a male character surfing at dawn and a female character to the aquarium at night), but both versions are romantic.
Multiple partners. You can raise several characters to five hearts at once and watch each five-heart scene; one player reported twelve characters at five hearts on a single save. Move In only happens when you choose the option, never automatically. Whether more than one partner can live with you at the same time is not covered by any source reviewed — Unconfirmed as of August 23, 2026.
How affection works
Each NPC has five hearts shown above the dialogue box; the phone’s Social app (Details tab) shows the exact point total, what you have unlocked and which gifts they have liked or hated so far.
Ways to gain points (EA measurements)
| Action | Affection | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Talk once a day | at least 5 | Repeated chatting in one day only counts once (fixed in 0.3.x) |
| Loved gift | 15 | One gift per NPC per day; birthday gifts get a special reaction |
| Liked gift | 10 | Most crops and a short list of universal foods — see the gifts guide |
| Neutral gift | 5 | |
| Disliked / Hated gift | 0 | Sources disagree on whether it also removes points; avoid either way |
| Bulletin-board request for that NPC | 15–30 | See quests & bulletin board |
| Returning a lost item | 20 | |
| Profession quest for a mentor | up to 50 | Why the five mentors max out fastest |
Heart thresholds and what each unlocks
| Hearts | Points | Unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 90 (measured) | The NPC starts mailing you gifts; each romanceable character has three tiers of gift letters (hearts 1–2, 3–4, 5) |
| 2 | 220 (measured) | Photo invite — take a picture together, which can be turned into a sugar painting (their special gift) |
| 3 | 370 (measured) | Enter their bedroom: a one-time chest plus a chest that refreshes every Monday, dropping blueprints for their room’s furniture, materials or snacks. In 1.0, also the 3-Heart Relationship Story |
| 4 | 500 (player report, single source) | You can post bulletin-board requests addressed to them |
| 5 | 750 (player reports; “750 is max”) | A letter arrives with a time and place for a voiced Invitation confession scene; afterwards the Move In option appears |
The 90 / 220 / 370 figures were checked by two independent EA guides; 500 and 750 come from a single wiki and Reddit reports, and one player noted inconsistencies around the fourth heart, so treat those two as approximate.
Five-heart Invitation scenes (examples)
The letter tells you when and where to go. Recorded EA triggers: Solara at the wishing tree in the town square at 16:00; Zerine outside her store at 17:00 testing a robot; Delphin on the beach at 8:00 for a male character or at AquaBlue Outpost at 20:00 for a female character; Aurelis in his study on a rainy evening at 19:00 for a female character, or between 9:00 and 11:00 for a male character. Sylvain, Zephyria and Graminova have their own versions. These scenes are voiced.
Dating
Dating arrived in Early Access build 0.4.9868 on April 28, 2026 as “NPC Dating Interactions” unlocked at a set affection level. During EA only six characters could actually be asked out — Solara and the five mentors — from three hearts onward, which is why searches such as “can’t date Aurelis” were common through the summer. Players shared a cheat-sheet (May 29, 2026, believed to originate from the official Discord) of each of the six’s preferred spots for the three EA date types:
| NPC | Picnic spot | Entertainment spot | Tea spot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solara | Flower Corridor | Hot Spring | Cafe |
| Zerine | Mount Qingcheng | Arcade | Cafe |
| Pastelle | Flower Corridor | Musical Instrument Shop | Aureleaf Kitchen |
| Graminova | Flower Corridor | Musical Instrument Shop | Aureleaf Kitchen |
| Zephyria | Lighthouse | Hot Spring | Beach Bar |
| Delphin | Lighthouse | Hot Spring | Beach Bar |
1.0 changes. The August 16, 2026 launch post says all 14 romanceable NPCs now have “new and expanded dating activities”, naming picnics, arcade games and kite flying by the sea as examples, and draws a line between Relationship Stories (scenes that unlock as you grow closer) and Dating (inviting someone out once the relationship is strong enough). Players have already posted a winter date with Neona at the instrument shop. A full 1.0 preference table for all 14 does not exist yet in any source; this page will add it when one is verified.
”Marriage”, moving in and children
There is no wedding. No proposal, ceremony or spouse title exists; the 80-plus official Steam posts from December 2025 to August 2026 never use the words marriage or wedding. What guides call “marriage” is the Move In invitation at five hearts, which Gamezebo’s February 2026 piece describes bluntly as the substitute for marriage.
Living together (player reports, EA and early 1.0). After you invite a partner in, you need room and a bed for them. A post-launch report describes the partner arriving after 22:00, doing chores until about 2:00, lingering at home in the morning and then returning to their normal route. Early builds had cohabitation pathfinding bugs (partners stuck in custom-built houses, not coming home, Zerine stuck after using the basement computer); patch notes in June 2026 list fixes for all of these, and 0.6.6510 restored a missing Move In option for Lunelle.
No children. Nothing official mentions kids, adoption or pregnancy. A Reddit thread from August 2, 2026 quotes a developer comment from April saying marriage and kids “likely won’t be for a while”, but the original Discord message could not be located, so treat it as hearsay: the current state is simply that no child system exists.
Small perks of high affection
- Affection Discount (build 0.4.9467, April 24, 2026): reaching certain affection levels makes related items in that NPC’s shop cheaper.
- Doorbell (build 0.6.6510, June 25, 2026): some NPC bedroom doors got a doorbell so you can call the character out to talk instead of waiting for them to leave.
- Several achievement names (“Sincerely Yours”, “Wholehearted”, “Close Friends”) read like relationship milestones; their exact triggers are tracked on the achievements page.
FAQ
Can you get married in Starsand Island?
No. The relationship track ends with Move In at five hearts (about 750 affection). There is no wedding, ring or spouse status, and the developers have not announced one.
Can you have kids?
No. No child or adoption system exists in 1.0, and no official roadmap item promises one.
Can you be gay in Starsand Island?
Yes. All 14 romance options are available to either player gender, and several five-heart scenes have separate versions for male and female characters.
Can you date multiple characters?
Yes — affection is tracked per NPC, so you can max out as many as you like and see every five-heart scene. Move In requires you to choose it; whether two partners can cohabit is unverified.
Is there romance at all?
Yes: five hearts, gifts, photo invites, bedroom access, 3-heart stories, dates and Move In. It is lighter than Stardew-style marriage, but fully voiced.
Why can’t I date Aurelis?
In Early Access only Solara and the five mentors had date options; Aurelis got them in 1.0 along with the rest of the cast. His five-heart confession also needs a specific trigger: a rainy evening at 19:00 in his study for a female character, or 9:00–11:00 for a male one. One player reported (August 21, 2026) not seeing a 3-heart story for him — a single report, not yet confirmed.
