Starsand Island Expand Farm: Land Prices, Layouts & Houses

To expand your farm in Starsand Island you unlock the Buy Land app on your phone, then purchase the remaining eight Hopeland plots one at a time, and eventually three whole new regions. There is no separate “upgrade house” button: your home grows by buying a pre-designed layout from Lex Woodworks or by building in Build Mode. This page has the complete price list, the unlock conditions, the “no plot permissions / can’t place layout” fixes and how layouts and the 1.0 Blueprint Library fit together.

Prices and tier requirements come from the game’s Buy Land and Island Life strings (which include Version 1.0 entries); the layout-placement tips and error causes are Early Access player reports being re-checked for 1.0.

How to unlock Buy Land

The app appears once you claim the Island Life reward Junior Talent — the fifth sub-tier, which requires any one profession at Junior rank, five completed bulletin-board requests and the four earlier tiers. The developer’s Early Access overview confirms “all nine subplots of your homestead can now be unlocked”. Your starter plot is the centre one.

Hopeland: the eight extra plots

Each plot is a 30×30 building grid (a farm tile takes 2×2 of it). Prices below are compiled from the in-game app and match an early-access guide for the first four and Reddit reports that each step is “nearly double, and you pay Starsand too”.

5th75,000160
6th100,000200
7th130,000250
8th160,000300

Total for all eight: 562,000 gold and 1,255 Starsand. Achievements track it — “Dream Manor” for five expansions (6.5% of players) and “My Big House” for all of them (15.3%, see the achievements guide).

New regions

RegionIsland Life requirementCostSize / notes
Cloudrest LakeHome Builder stage; six Hopeland expansions bought2,000,000g + 600 Starsand80×80 grid; bamboo forest
Blue BeachBright Star stage; Cloudrest owned6,000,000g + Starsand (amount not listed — Unconfirmed as of August 23, 2026)180×180; the Deluxe Amusement Park layout only fits here
Windflute IslandStarsand Legend stage; Blue Beach owned and ten stations built10,000,000g + 850 StarsandWhole island plus some water; Celestial Craft layout only here; the terrain editor (hills, lakes, roads) is Windflute-only

A Reddit shorthand says “expand six times and two new plots unlock”; the app data is more specific — six expansions gate Cloudrest, and the other two chain behind it. Achievements for the regions: Lakeside View (8.1%), Sandcastle Kingdom (3.9%), Offshore Living (4.2%).

”No plot permissions” and “can’t place layout”

The most common expansion error in Early Access threads. Known causes and the order to try:

  1. The footprint crosses a plot you do not own — layouts are big; an Intermediate layout covers about one full plot.
  2. Something is still on the plot: bushes, mushrooms, stones, bugs — or you, standing inside the outline.
  3. Overlap setting — enable “allow overlapping” in Build Mode and rotate the layout.
  4. If it still fails, it is a bug: patches fixed false “No plot permissions” for greenhouses (0.3.5809) and houseboats (0.4.9467) and a false “Plot not fully loaded” (0.7.7575). Whether any of these persists in 1.0 is not yet reported.

Unplot soil: swing the pickaxe at tilled farmland, 2 stamina per tile. Immortal seeds come out the same way.

House upgrades and layouts

There is no one-click upgrade. Three routes: buy a Layout (one-click build once you have the materials), reuse a layout you already own and gather materials yourself, or free-build. Solara gives every new player an 80% coupon for the first Intermediate layout.

LayoutIsland Life tierPrice
Intermediate Countryside Haven / Modern Retreat / Classic Courtyardnone10,000g each
Advanced (three designs)Island Pro250,000g each
Deluxe Amusement ParkBright Star450,000g (Blue Beach only)
Celestial CraftStarsand Legend650,000g (Windflute only)

That matches the developer’s “eight pre-designed homes, like a Chinese courtyard, European villa, or even a luxury amusement park”. Practical notes from players: an Intermediate layout needs roughly a full plot cleared and the old cabin demolished; your starter plot plus one purchase is enough; Intermediate layouts ship with four or five Beehives that some players dismantle and sell (reported 25,000g-plus); the Advanced Countryside Haven’s planter boxes became decorative in 0.5.1822; and “Intermediate Countryside Haven” is a layout name, not a trial. Build Mode itself offers foundations, rotation, grid snap, perspective mode, swappable wall and floor materials and weather/time previews, with interiors and exteriors loading as one space.

Island Life and the Blueprint Library

Island Life is the phone app with the five milestone stages — Returning Resident, Island Pro, Home Builder, Bright Star, Starsand Legend — and about 25 sub-tiers; the stages above gate layouts and regions. You can also save your own builds as blueprints and reuse them across saves. Version 1.0 added more than 20 hand-picked player blueprints from the “Island Life” Homestead Layout Design Contest (April 27–June 5, 2026) to the Blueprint Library, with 40-plus Silver and Bronze winners promised in later updates; patch 1.08.3916 already fixes a floor in the contest entry “Resort Town”.

House build ideas — what the systems allow

We do not invent designs; these are mechanics you can build around: the Windflute terrain editor for shaped hills and lakes; greenhouses that merge when placed side by side (4 tiles wide, any length); houseboats (a placeable vehicle-home on water); 300-plus furniture pieces and, per the developer, nearly a thousand decorative items in classic, modern, European, traditional and fairytale styles; NPC bedroom chests that unlock exclusive furniture blueprints at three hearts; the seasonal fruit furniture line from Gmax fragments; and the Starsand Chic contest and Blueprint Library for community references. Machines that belong on a planned plot are on the machines page.

Can you expand your farm, and how many times?

Yes: eight Hopeland plots, then Cloudrest Lake, Blue Beach and Windflute Island — eleven purchases in total.

How do I get more land cheaply?

You cannot skip the ladder, but the first plot is only 2,000g and 50 Starsand; the big costs are plots 6–8 and the regions.

Why is my house layout red / not placeable?

Unowned plot under the footprint, leftover objects (including yourself), overlap disabled, or a known bug — check in that order.
