Starsand Island on Xbox & Game Pass: Tiers, Achievements
Starsand Island is on Xbox Series X|S and on Xbox Game Pass. It was the first console platform to get the game: the Early Access build launched as an Xbox Game Preview title on February 11, 2026, the same day as Steam, and Version 1.0 replaced it on August 18, 2026. This page covers which Game Pass tiers include it, what it costs to own, the Play Anywhere license, Xbox achievements, how updates reach the console, and the questions players keep searching — Xbox One, offline play, and “is there an Xbox update today”.
For the all-platform view see the release date and platforms page.

Game Pass: which tiers include it
Starsand Island has been a Game Pass title since day one of Early Access. At that point it was available to Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers. On August 20, 2026 — two days after 1.0 — Microsoft’s regional Xbox Wire listing added it to Game Pass Premium, which covers Cloud, Console and PC play. In practice that means every paid Game Pass tier above the base “Core” library now includes it (Core itself is not named in any source we have, so treat it as not included).
Two consequences worth knowing:
- Playing through Game Pass does not include the paid Classic European DLC; the free packs (Chinese New Year, Ribbit Holiday, Shining Star) are available to claim. See DLC and editions.
- If you later buy the game, the Microsoft Store version is the cheapest “own it” path during the launch sale at $31.59.
Play Anywhere, and buying outright
The Microsoft catalogue entry carries the Xbox Play Anywhere attribute: one purchase covers both the Series X|S console version and the Windows PC version from the Microsoft Store, with saves shared between them. The list price in Microsoft’s own catalogue is an unusual $39.49, which launch coverage rounded to $39.99; the discounted price shown at the time of writing is $31.59. A Deluxe edition at $59.99 bundles the $20 Classical DLC.
This is separate from the Steam version (a different license, $39.99 / $31.99 on sale). Owning one does not give you the other, and the two cannot play together — see the multiplayer section below.
Achievements on Xbox
The game ships with 75 achievements on Steam, and the Xbox version has its own achievement list with Gamerscore. Our sources captured the Steam list with global unlock percentages, which is documented in full — names, descriptions, and rarity tiers — on the achievements guide. Whether the Xbox list is a strict one-to-one mirror of Steam’s 75 is unconfirmed as of August 23, 2026; the names we have seen quoted by Xbox players match the Steam names, so the Steam table is the practical reference until a full Xbox export is verified. If you are hunting Gamerscore, the Steam unlock rates are still a reasonable proxy for which achievements are quick and which are grinds.
Multiplayer on Xbox
Version 1.0’s online co-op (up to four players on one host’s island, each keeping their own save) works on Xbox. Two platform notes:
- No crossplay. Xbox console players cannot join Steam or PlayStation islands. Whether Xbox Series X|S and the Microsoft Store PC version can play together under the Play Anywhere umbrella is not stated by the developer; the only official statement is that cross-platform play is not supported and is being looked into.
- Multiplayer unlocks after the early “Smooth Sailing” stage quest; patch 1.08.3916 fixed a case where the entrance failed to appear afterward.
Mechanics, permissions and the Multiplayer Shop are on the multiplayer guide.
Updates on Xbox (“xbox update today”)
The developer’s August 17, 2026 post set expectations: PC is patched first; console builds arrive after each platform’s certification, and patch notes are published for every release. So when players search “starsand island xbox update today”, the reliable check is: (1) has a new PC patch been posted, and (2) has the developer confirmed the console rollout. The first post-launch patch, 1.08.3916, shipped on PC on August 20, 2026; its Xbox release date had not been announced by August 23. The patch notes page lists every version and is updated when console builds are confirmed.
Early Access on Xbox had a rockier start than PC: February 2026 press coverage noted the Xbox build had more problems at launch, and several early patches were labelled as Steam-first. That gap is the reason the developer now states the PC-first policy explicitly.
Offline play
No official source we reviewed states how Starsand Island behaves offline on Xbox. Single-player is a local experience and Game Pass titles generally follow Microsoft’s standard offline-licensing rules, but the developer has not published a specific statement, so we list offline play as unconfirmed as of August 23, 2026. (The Steam PC requirements list a broadband connection, which is at least a hint that some online check may exist.)
Is Starsand Island on Xbox Game Pass?
Yes. It has been on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass since Early Access began on February 11, 2026, and was added to Game Pass Premium (Cloud/Console/PC) on August 20, 2026.
Is Starsand Island on Xbox One?
No. Every store listing and launch report names Xbox Series X|S only. There is no Xbox One SKU.
Does the Xbox version have achievements?
Yes. The Steam release has 75 achievements, and the Xbox version has an achievement list with Gamerscore. We have not verified a one-to-one match, so use the Steam-based achievements table as your reference for now.
Can Xbox players play with PC or PlayStation friends?
No. The developer has stated that cross-platform multiplayer is not supported at this time.
