Starsand Island Map: Regions, Moonlit Forest, Chests & Keys
Starsand Island is one main island ringed by three seas, plus the Moonlit Forest — the game’s dungeon/mining zone entered from the island and split into twelve camps in a fixed order. This page lists the main-island regions and what lives in each, then walks the forest zone by zone (bosses, gates, teleport camps), and finishes with chests, treasure maps, the two Ruins Keys, the Bronze Gate and the “vines” question. No coordinates are given here; the game’s own map and the Islandpedia are better for pixel-precise spots.
Region descriptions draw on the official Early Access overview and community map pages; forest structure comes from a widely upvoted zone-by-zone ore guide cross-checked with item origin data. All of it is Early Access material being re-verified for Version 1.0.

Moonlit Forest: zone order, camps and bosses
The developer describes the forest as “12 new camps and 3 epic bosses”; enemies and ore respawn the next day. Camps, in the order players progress (each has a teleport stone):
Evernight Forest → Gate of Life → Dreamfall Garden (boss: Crystalith) → Crystalith Hideout → Azure Bay → Mural Valley (boss: Glintortle) → Harvest Yard → Grain Haven → Darkwater Shore → Homeward Trail → Serenity’s Rest → Moonlight Meadow (altar; final boss: Ruin Guardian)
How the forest gates work:
- Entry. The item data lists an Ancient Key (“unlocks the Moonlit Forest”, craftable at Worktable II from Iron Ingot 2 + Prism 1), but player accounts all enter through Zephyria’s Explorer questline and nobody mentions crafting it — the item’s real role is unconfirmed.
- Camps and Moonweaver stones. Each camp has a tent, campfire and worktable plus a Moonweaver stone that must be repaired before that camp’s teleporter works; boss-room stones just need the boss cleared. Repairing one also raises a translucent blue bridge.
- Astral Paths — stone doors that open once you collect enough Gravestar, released by pickaxing Gravecrystals nearby. The Gate of Life is the first: break three Grave Crystals so the grave mites light the door; a chest sits beside it.
- Luminpaths — light bridges with conditions such as catching five Luminwing Butterflies.
- Boulders blocking routes need the matching pickaxe tier; vines across paths are shot down with slingshot/bow or crossbow arrows (a February patch fixed arrows not registering on vines).
- Bridges: broken ones are rebuilt with stone; the gap before the Waterwheel (Harvest Yard) needs a Water Arrow to sprout a bridge or a pulley-shoe jump, and repairing the wheel is the Senior Explorer mainline.
- Bronze Gate — below the bubble bridge near Mural Valley/Azure Bay; opens with Ruins Key (Left) + (Right).
Bosses: Crystalith in Dreamfall Garden (opens Crystalith Hideout), Glintortle the turtle at the end of Mural Valley (its arena holds the magnetite), and the Ruin Guardian around Serenity’s Rest/Moonlight Meadow; beating it lets you tame the Moonlight Divine Deer at the altar. Common enemies are Runebirds (Gate of Life, Darkwater) and Luminfrogs (Dreamfall, Azure Bay). Zone-by-zone ore is on ore locations; Glowfish, Dreamfall Garden’s King, is on the King fish guide.
Ruins Key (Left) and (Right)
Sources disagree on how you get them. Two video walkthroughs and matching Reddit comments say the Left half is handed over by Zephyria when the Intermediate Explorer quest begins, and the Right half sits in a chest on the rocks at the bottom of the bubble bridge below the Bronze Gate, near the Azure Bay camp (jump down; a lift brings you back). One Reddit post insists the right key must come from an NPC, and another reports it going missing (a bug). Meanwhile the item data gives both halves a recipe — Iron Ingot 1 + Prism 1 + Bronze 1 at Worktable I — presumably a fallback. Safest reading: follow the Explorer questline for both halves; if one is lost, check the worktable’s key recipe.
Chests: main island 13 + 3 secret, forest acorn and vine chests
- 13 regular chests (brown with a gold star) around the main island and 3 secret chests (grey-blue), each triggered by following a light: a railing slide at Half-Moon Bay, a wall light between Ethereal Styles and Soluna Cafe, and the top of the Community Center slide. One sits in the Crane Cape pavilion.
- Moonlit Acorn Chests (acorn-shaped; some open only after an Astral Path or after harvesting a square of Moondew Shrooms) and Vine Chests wrapped in tendrils inside the forest.
- Farmland chests: tilling occasionally unearths a buried chest with 200–800g and a random Immortal Seed.
- Flawed Chest — the placeable 36-slot storage box (about a Storage Box II) you can take instead of 400–800g when digging up a Moonlit Forest treasure-map chest.
- Decayed Chest — Unconfirmed as of August 23, 2026: no source we hold describes it; it may be a variant or alternate translation of the Flawed Chest or a 1.0 addition.
- Adventure Association chest — almost certainly the Exploration Club’s “The Mysterious Treasure of the Exploration Club” side quest (the club is sometimes translated as an adventure association); patches fixed its poster localisation and missing guidance. The crossover guests’ room chests respawning infinitely was also patched (0.5.3429).
- NPC bedroom chests open at 3 hearts: one one-time chest and one that refreshes every Monday with that NPC’s furniture blueprints — see romance guide.
Treasure maps and dig sites
| Map | Where it comes from | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Moonlit Forest Treasure Map | Mining drop | Dig sites are a handful of fixed spots (sources say 5–8), all near the first camps — roughly two each in Evernight Forest, Gate of Life and Dreamfall Garden; save a stack and dig in one trip. Since 0.5.3429 the map shows distance/direction without being held |
| Beach Festival Treasure Map | Beach/mining areas during the festival | Explorer perk Victory Siphon doubles the chest |
| Lost Makeup Treasure Map | Side quest | Recoverable again even if sold (0.3.2537) |
| Mysterious Treasure Map | ”found from Zephyria’s place” (item text) | — |
| Great Ruins Treasure Map / Treasure Map Fragment | Item data only | Usage not sourced |
”Vines in Moonlit Forest” — two meanings
The search term covers two things: path-blocking vines you cut with arrows (see gates above), and the gatherable Moonshade Tendril, described as a hookvine variant native to the forest and used for aquascaping. Neither is the same as the Vine Chests. Forest plants such as Twilight Succulent and Echo Bean are on wood and plant resources.
”Key locations”
If you mean the keys: Ruins Key halves above, Ancient Key in the item data, plus the bronze-gate route. If you mean important places: your farm (Hopeland), the five mentors (Graminova at the Seed Shop, Zerine at the General Store, Pastelle at Green Pasture Ranch, Zephyria at the Exploration Club, Delphin at AquaBlue Outpost), Starsand Port for the seas, the forest entrance, and the Community Center/bulletin board — see quests and bulletin board.
How many zones does Moonlit Forest have?
Twelve camps in fixed order, Evernight Forest to Moonlight Meadow, with bosses in Dreamfall Garden, Mural Valley and the final meadow.
Where is the right Ruins Key?
Per player walkthroughs, in a chest on the rocks under the bubble bridge below the Bronze Gate near Azure Bay; a craftable version also exists in the data.
What is a Flawed Chest?
A placeable 36-slot storage chest offered as an alternative to coins when you dig up a Moonlit Forest treasure-map chest.
Is there an official interactive map?
Not from the developer; players have published interactive maps on Reddit and Steam.
