Starsand Island Mods: Mod Manager, Workshop, Nexus Guide

Starsand Island supports mods officially, and on PC the tooling is unusually complete for a game that left Early Access a week ago: an in-game Mod Manager, a free Modkit on Steam, Steam Workshop integration, and a developer-run documentation site. Alongside that, a community scene on Nexus Mods grew up during Early Access using the BepInEx framework. This page explains what each piece is, how they fit together, what the developer has said about modding, and what exists outside the official channels. Consoles do not get mods — everything below is PC/Steam.

Official mod support: the pieces

PieceSinceWhat it is
In-game Mod ManagerPatch 0.5.3241, May 29, 2026Menu inside the game to enable/import mods (clothing, buildings and more); the same patch removed code obfuscation to make modding easier
Mod docsMay 29, 2026https://mod.starsandisland.com/ — multilingual “Starsand Island MOD Docs” maintained by the developer
Steam WorkshopPatch 0.6.6510, June 25, 2026Mod Manager now browses/subscribes via Workshop; roughly 78 ready-to-use items as of Aug 23, 2026
Starsandisland ModkitJune 25, 2026Free tool listed as a separate Steam app (appid 4886470) for building mods
Language Pack importPatch 0.6.6510Settings option to load external translation packs — effectively a sanctioned translation-mod path

How the official route works

  1. Install the game and (optionally) the free Modkit from Steam.
  2. Open the Mod Manager in-game. Since 0.6.6510 it connects to Steam Workshop, so subscribing to a Workshop item and enabling it in the manager is the whole process for most cosmetic mods.
  3. For mods that are not on Workshop, the manager also supports importing local mods (a June 4 patch specifically fixed imported mods failing to load).
  4. Translation packs use the separate Language Pack import in Settings.

Workshop categories at the time of writing include Mod, Clothing, Shoes, Hair, Top, Bottom, Translation and a community tag. Most items are outfit pieces — unsurprising given the game’s 200+ wearables per body type (see character creation and outfits).

What the developer has said

The studio’s stance was set in its February 12, 2026 “Response to Recent Issues” post, a day after Early Access launched: restrictive clauses had been removed from the user agreement, the team would never restrict players from using mods or other custom content, there is no anti-cheat system, and Steam Workshop would open after full release. The February 13 roadmap then slotted “MOD support and basic creator tools” plus Workshop sharing into May 2026. Delivery ran close to plan: Mod Manager on May 29, Workshop on June 25 (the patch notes for 0.5.3241 had said “late June”). The promise has held into 1.0 — the August 20 patch even fixes a display bug caused by “using a MOD save”, which is about as explicit an acknowledgement of modded saves as you will get.

Nexus Mods: the community scene

Nexus Mods has a Starsand Island section with about 43 mods as of August 23, 2026. The ecosystem runs on BepInEx 6 (IL2CPP) — you install the BepInEx loader for the game first, then drop plugin mods in. The most-endorsed entries give a sense of what people want:

Mod (Nexus)TypeNote

Two practical notes. First, Nexus mods and Workshop mods coexist — BepInEx plugins change code, Workshop items are mostly assets managed by the Mod Manager — but nobody has published a compatibility matrix, so treat combinations as untested. Second, every version bump can break BepInEx plugins; the 1.0 and 1.08.3916 updates were only days ago, so check each mod’s last-updated date before installing. Version history is on the patch notes page.

Trainers, Cheat Engine tables and adult mods

Trainers, Cheat Engine tables and a “nude mod” for Starsand Island exist and are searched for. This site does not host, link or describe them; note only that the developer runs no anti-cheat and has said it will not restrict mods, so the risk is to your save file, not your account. Multiplayer is host-island based with separate saves, so modded clients do not directly alter a friend’s progress — but the developer has not published any policy on mods in multiplayer sessions, so that is unconfirmed as of August 23, 2026.

Mods and multiplayer

Official posts are silent on whether Workshop or BepInEx mods are allowed, blocked, or synced in four-player sessions. Given the separate-save design (see the multiplayer guide), a cosmetic Workshop outfit on your character will at minimum load for you; whether other players see it is untested in any source we have.

Mods on consoles

None. The Mod Manager, Modkit and Workshop are PC features. PS5, Xbox and Switch 2 players get the base game and DLC only.

Does Starsand Island have mod support?

Yes, officially on PC: an in-game Mod Manager since May 29, 2026, Steam Workshop integration and a free Modkit since June 25, 2026, and documentation at mod.starsandisland.com.

Is there Steam Workshop for Starsand Island?

Yes. Patch 0.6.6510 (June 25, 2026) connected the Mod Manager to Steam Workshop; around 78 items were listed as of August 23, 2026, mostly clothing and translations.

Are mods on Nexus safe to use with 1.0?

They are community-made BepInEx plugins; many were built during Early Access. Check each mod’s update date against the August 18 (1.0) and August 20 (1.08.3916) patches before installing. The developer runs no anti-cheat and will not restrict mods.

Can you mod Starsand Island on PS5, Xbox or Switch 2?

No. Mod support is PC-only.
